East Meath: Replacing a 1970’s bungalow, this new eco house on the
edge of a pond is inspired by a visit to a Japanese Tea house on the Island of Shikoko ; the sense
of water within the space, including the reflected light onto the ceilings, brings a sense of
serene calm. Even in deep winter the house is peaceful in it’s setting. A heat pump draws
from a submerged array in the pond and a solar cabin oriented due south maximises gains for solar
thermal panels allowing the spaces to be oriented square-on-diagonal to the south admitting
available sunlight to all spaces, year round. The structure and fabric are eco
logical.
