Ecological architecture - sustainable design

The house is in the red zone of Dublin Airport with jets landing and taking off 170m overhead! The old farmhouse has been swamped by urban sprawl over a couple of decades; the new house is in the orchard adjacent, surrounded by the M2 motorway and associated overpass. All this contributes to huge noise/vibration impacts, dust and air pollution. Noise is dealt with by mass, in the intensive heavy earth roof and glazing systems deliberately designed to mitigate sound transmission; the pyramid shape reflects noise away from the building and site and is economic. The Eco specification includes timber frame cellulose insulation etc.
