Deep green retrofit of heritage dwelling. Context The house faces North, over garden hedge to mature street trees: On the longest double tree-lined avenue in Europe and unique in Dublin, and wide; 'the hundred foot road' until renamed in 1927. Relatively high over the city, the location is exposed, with an open prospect as far as the Dublin mountains.
A new single storey extension of timber frame replaces a dilapidated lean-to garage: Its new low-pitched roof finished in interlocking clay tiles resembling the original green slates. Larch cladding, like the garden gate, is protected by charring and an eaves overhang, both of which echo the existing.
Only updated in the past fifty years by double glazing: The original fittings conjure up anew an era of gracious living eg. high-waisted doors with brass ironmongery
